College Counseling for Non-traditional and First-Generation Students

Home of the Camino Scholars

I offer expert guidance, counseling, and mentorship to students from ALL backgrounds, with special care for those who will be in the first generation of their family to attend college in the United States.

My expertise

Early in my career, I worked diligently supporting the enrollment of first-generation students at Holy Names University as well as reading 2,000+ applications for college admission at the highly selective and prestigious University of Southern California (USC).

My work as a college counselor helping high school students apply to college in the East Bay Area informs my ability to encourage students from first-generation backgrounds in a way that is educated and very honest.

Why this practice specifically is great for first-gen students

First-generation college-going students often face cultural, environmental, academic, and financial barriers to successfully enrolling in college and graduating from college. National statistics demonstrate roughly 1/3 of these students drop out of college within three years.

While I am happy to help students from all familial backgrounds with their college journey, I have special expertise in supporting those who need extra help with this process.

Introducing the “Camino” framework of college counseling

The Spanish word “camino” translates to “pathway” or “journey” in English.

Empowering students to identify the process of going to college as a journey– one that is unique to each individual student– is so important. The mental and emotional aspect of this process can be quite challenging to many first-generation students. I claim “Camino” on my services to communicate that I recognize and honor this part of the experience, as well.

Please sign up for a session via this Calendly link. One session costs $85, and there are opportunities to lower the individual price of each session through purchasing the Camino Scholar Package or applying for the Camino Scholar Fellowship.
